Jack Brown: Guestbook

Jack, I just read the words to your songs and your comments below the song titles from the album Live From Left of Center. Love them both--the lyrics and your personal notes about the songs! You have a gift for writing lyrics that are clever, evocative, and connect with your listeners. You are wonderfully multi-faceted, creatively talented! I am looking forward to album # 3 in June-ish, and especially the songs that are "just you."

This wouldn't be the same Jack Brown I taught English at Bayou View Junior High, would it? Heard your interview on WLOX, loved the song, and couldn't help wondering.

Jack, what is the best software that I would need to purchase as a beginner plucker? There is way to much out there for me to make a correct decisison. Recall I am wanting to focuse mostly on rythem. Remember if you are giggin on the coast, there is a vacant house that you are always welcome to occupy down here.
thanks

Mr. Brown
It was so nice seeing you today. I looked you up as soon as I got home and played some of your songs for my husband. He really enjoyed your music and so did I. You are a very gifted person. I know your a busy man, but if you ever have any spare time, my husband really loves playing finger style accustic music. It would be fun for you two to play together. He's always looking for someone to play with since we moved down here.

It's so refreshing to hear songs again! Jack Brown shares the space of craftsmen like Marshall Crenshaw (particularly Crenshaw's outstanding recent recordings) and the late Warren Zevon, bless his ironic, iconic soul. What distinguishes artists like Jack, and these others, is their uniquely American approach to songwriting: unfettered by convention, eclectic in style, irreverent where necessary but insistently pleasing to the ear at all times. I love the design of this website, by the way! The wood panel frame seems a most fitting backdrop for Jack and his music: richly textured and honest as earth.

There is some really fine, fine guitar playing on "Fat Man"...just kidding....The sight looks great Jack! Call me when you get up here to WA. and maybe we can play together. There's a little coffee house down in Lewiston...and we don't have to play everything in A MINOR!!!
