HOLE IN MY POCKET

VERSE
There’s a hole in my pocket ‘bout the size of my hand
And though I’m educated I can’t seem to understand
How I can lose so many silly things like keys and coins and wedding rings
And lyrics to the songs I sing, whatever can I do?

VERSE
There’s a fog in my mind, it’s getting larger each day.
And though I do my best, it seems to jump right in the way.
I forget my anniversary, leave children at the nursery,
And make my darling curse at me, whatever can I do?

BRIDGE
Can I learn to love again?
It’s a word I haven’t heard since I don’t know when.
Will my pocket ever mend?
Well not by itself if I sit it on the shelf or if I wait around for somebody else.

VERSE
There’s a spot on my heart I never noticed before
And every time I look there seems to be a little more.
There’s people crying out for love and looking to the stars above.
Oh, haven’t we all had enough? Whatever can we do?

(BRIDGE)

VERSE
There’s a hole in the universe, a black ugly stain.
And life is shooting down this hole like garbage down the drain.
The forest’s being cut away, the air is turning brownish-gray.
Oh what could one man ever say to make tomorrow be a better day?
